Statement by Iceland (no 5 of 87)
Mr. President,
Iceland welcomes the delegation of Jamaica and its national report.
In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:
- Abolish the death penalty and ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
- Criminalize marital rape.
- Strengthen implementation of the National Strategic Action Plan to Eliminate Gender-Based Violence.
- Decriminalize and legalize abortion.
- Decriminalize same-sex relations between consenting adults.
- Enact comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation to prohibit all forms of discrimination, including against persons of diverse SOGIESC.
- Ensure all forms of violence against persons of diverse SOGIESC are effectively prosecuted.
