Statement by Iceland (no 6 of 81)

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Liberia and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Abolish the death penalty and ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
2. Review and strengthen the Domestic Violence Act to criminalize all forms of sexual and gender-based violence
3. Eradicate female genital mutilation.
4. End child, early and forced marriage.
5. Ensure access to safe abortion and sexual and reproductive health services.
6. Guarantee comprehensive sexual education in and out of school settings.
7. Repeal Article 14.74 of the Penal Code and legalize same-sex relations between consenting adults.
8. Develop, enact, and enforce comprehensive legislation that criminalizes all forms of discrimination against persons of diverse SOGIESC.
